China-Fiji Free Trade Agreements

On November 14-15, 2016, the second meeting of the China-Fiji FTA Joint Research Working Group was held in Beijing.

The two sides exchanged views on the preliminary draft of the feasibility study report, reached a consensus on the areas and contents of the joint feasibility study, and laid the foundation for the completion of the joint feasibility study report.

Fiji is the first Pacific island nation to engage in a free trade agreement with China. In 2015, China-Fiji bilateral trade volume of 350 million US dollars, an increase of 3%.

January-September 2016, bilateral trade volume of 353 million US dollars, an increase of 35%. By the end of 2015, China’s direct investment in Fiji amounted to $ 97.92 million.

  • At present, Fiji is China’s second largest trading partner in the Pacific Islands, China is the largest source of foreign investment in Fiji.
