China-Maldives Free Trade Agreements

“Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Maldives on China-Maldives Free Trade Agreement Negotiations”

Previously, the China delegation led by the Ministry of Commerce, the Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture, the General Administration of Customs and other departments held a two-day consultation with the Malaysian bilateral trade agreement. Ended the negotiations on the various issues.

China – Maldives FTA negotiations started in December 2015, after five rounds of negotiations and one ministerial consultation.

According to the agreement, more than 95% of the goods trade between the two countries will achieve zero tariff, the two sides also concerned about their financial, medical, tourism and other service sectors to make market open commitment, and agreed to further strengthen the pragmatic cooperation in key areas.

The next step, the two sides will soon carry out the legal review of the agreement and the implementation of domestic procedures for the formal signing of the agreement to prepare.
