China-Colombia Free Trade Agreements

May 9, 2012, under the testimony of President Hu Jintao and visiting Colombian President Santos,

Minister of Commerce Chen Deming and the Colombian Minister of Trade and Industry Tourism Minister Granados signed a cooperation agreement.

  • “Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Republic of Colombia on Joint Feasibility Study on Bilateral Free Trade Agreements”
  • And the formal launch of the two countries free trade zone joint feasibility study.

    China and Colombia are politically friendly and have close economic ties.


    The two sides in the economic and trade areas complement each other, cooperation potential, market prospects.

    The two sides announced the launch of the China-Colombia Free Trade Zone joint feasibility study, the two countries will deepen economic and trade cooperation to explore new roads, open a new chapter.

    At present, China is Colombia’s second largest trading partner in the world, Colombia is China’s eighth largest trading partner in Latin America.

  • In 2011, China-Colombia bilateral trade amounted to 8.23 billion US dollars, of which China’s exports to Colombia 5.84 billion US dollars, imports from Colombia 2.39 billion US dollars.
